Research Interest
My research in the last decades includes molecular epidemiology and diagnostics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, population genetics of Leishmania donovani, Immunopathology of experimental and human leishmaniasis with and without HIV co-infection. As PI or Co-Investigator on several University-, welcome trust-, NIH and DNDi funded grants; I laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing the expertise, leadership and motivation required for effective implementation of identification of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. In addition, I successfully administered the projects (e.g. staffing, research protections, budget), collaborated with other researchers, and produced several peer-reviewed publications from each project. As a result of these previous experiences, I am aware of the importance of frequent communication among project members and of constructing a realistic research plan, timeline, and budget. I am grown up in a society most affected by HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and a number of neglected tropical diseases and cancer. The unbearable pity for my sister who died of cancer and colleagues suffering from these diseases and the passion for the search of knowledge forces me to make the current application my prior work.
